Filming day 1 Photos
Set up for the roundabout shot, simply pressed record and made Alfie bike back and forth.
I filmed a shot across the road from the telephone box, and tried a zoom into it to empahasise it's colour.
Filming Alfie actually entering and leaving the telephone box, making the character interact with the object puts even more emphasis on it.
Shot from across the road of William Hill the betting shop, something stereotypical of a poor man's location to hang about/visit on a day to day basis.
Quick lifestyle snap just to the right of where we were filming. This is a road leading onto Beverley road, living up to it's expectations of a dirty Northern working class town.
This is a shot looking across at the Humber dock. Hull is famous for it's docks and it's history of the fishing industry.
A shot of humber street, a prime example of culture trying to emerge from it's ugly/run down location. Skips, rubbish and battered old building try their best to hide away the paintings on the wall however I feel the colour of the graffiti is still more prevalent.
Alfie biking around.
Alfie posing while I bark instructions at him.
Here is where I filmed the shot of Alfie biking down Humber Street, towarsds the iconic tidal barrier.
This is obviously where the health and safety precautions were most needed as I did run the risk of getting hit by a car. The street was not busy at all however, with the odd car coming around every 15 minutes, giving us enough time to film the shot easily.
Alfie posing for his 'costume' photo in all black.
I got Alfie to take these photos while I filmed the trawler boat travelling off into the sunset.
For helping me out and being a brilliant actor, I treat Alfie to a panini from the local Italian bakery in the marketplace of which, from the above photos, I think he enjoyed.
Here is the shot of the infamous Bob Carvers fish and chip restaurant. This shot took quite a while and was the most tedious as the location is in the town centre and therefore there were many passers by getting in the way of the shot.

Mise-en-scene: Costume
Here is my talent Alfie. He is dressed in all black, with a black bike against a black background.
Black has connotations of evil, darkness and criminal activity, precisely the sort of light I would like to shine upon this side of the character I am representing.
Upon asking fellow classmates what how they would stereotypically dress a criminal, the most prevalent answer was in anything black.
Furthermore, upon asking classmates how they would dress a homeless person/alcoholic, they said that they were most likely to be wearing ill fitting clothes and a big coat.
I feel my research into stereotypical costumes of both homeless and criminals has inspired this look for my character.

Animatic Number 2
This is the new animatic for my film. The piece now features more diegetic sounds relative to the first one and also follows the more conventional todorov narrative structure. Alot of the shots are the same or similar and therefore storyboarding the piece wasn't as time consuming as at first. Furthermore, as I had already filmed a small part of my original idea I have made it so that I can use this footage also.

Animatic for my initial idea
This is the relatively incomplete animatic for my 'Idle Thieving Bastards' film. I have chosen to follow another storyline as I feel that the narrative structure of this film was too weak as it started as a very basic montage edit. This would not suffice with my targets for A* for my A2 coursework and therefore I have chosen to follow a stronger storyline, with a split screen edit, which will allow me to use more advanced editing, cinematography, mise-en-scene and sound techniques to gain more marks while having a stronger link to the theory work we have done in class.
My original piece didn't actually follow the conventions that I identified for a short film and was beginning to look more and more like a music video and therefore would have been ineffective as a short film piece.
